The 2017 Lexus IS luxury sedan has been revealed at the Beijing Auto Show. In it’s first refresh since it’s major in 2013, the new Lexus IS features an updated front fascia and headlamps as well as a larger infotainment screen mounted in the dash. Since it’s last update in 2013, sales of of the brand’s entry-level luxury sedan have far surpassed expectations.
Redesigned Headlamps and Front Fascia
With the current Lexus IS style having been so popular, Lexus has kept the exterior’s overall design and appearance in place adding just enough technology to spice things up. Like the 2016 Lexus ES and GS updates, the front fascia has received new headlamps and a new implementation of Lexus’ spindle grille with large air intakes in the front bumper.
More pronounced than before, the reshaped headlamps extend inward, giving the new IS an eye-catching shape which accentuates the “L”-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). A new level of aggressiveness has risen with the newly designed front end. The new grille that folds back at a higher point, changing its top and bottom proportions enhances its sporty feel by visually lowering the center of gravity. All blend in effortlessly with the reshaped hood.
New Exterior Color Options
Two new color options have been added to the IS’s color palate: Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black Glass Flake.
Refreshed Taillight and Exhaust
The rear of the new Lexus IS is highlighted by a more pronounced, triple layered, “L”-shaped LED taillight and a new rectangular chrome exhaust tip.
New Display and Remote Touch Interface
Moving from the exterior to the interior, the cabin has been refreshed with a now 10.3 inch display – adding 3.3 inches to the previous display. The high-resolution monitor offers a larger and clearer image. An added “Enter” button on the side of the Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) makes the system easier to use.
New interior options will be added in select markets – Nuance Black and Noble Brown. Additionally, Chateau replaces Moonstone and Ivory.
The new IS will continue to offer three different engine options with additional safety equipment. The added Lexus Safety System + combines Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beam (AHB) and Radar Cruise Control.
