After much anticipation, the newly redesigned 2016 Lexus LX finally makes an appearance at Pebble Beach. Lexus through just about everything out the door on the new LX except the doors themselves. The luxury SUV’s interior, exterior, and even technology get a fresh new look on the 2016’s model year.
New to the SUV’s exterior include LED headlamp lighting (now standard) and 20″ wheels (with optional 21″) with a dual tone gray finish. Two new colors coat the LX. Atomic Silver, a newer Lexus swatch (seen previously on the 2015 Lexus ES 350/300h, IS 250/350, GS 350, and NX 200t), is a dynamic, gold and silver hybrid. Nightfall Mica is a new addition to the Lexus color scheme that has not been available on previous model years.
Inside the new LX, drivers will find a 12.3″ navigation screen controlled by Lexus’ Remote Touch System (with a few updates from the familiar system). Steering is now controlled from a three-spoke steering wheel with an all new button layout. Added into the instrument cluster is a 4.2″ color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Multi-Information Display (MID). Heads Up Display (HUD) and the Qi wireless charging system now come optional.
Mechanically, the luxury SUV keeps it’s 5.7-liter V8 tuned at 383-horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque. What fuel conscious and performance driver’s will appreciate is the now 8-speed, Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT). Replacing the pervious 6-speed transmission with the 8-speed gives added fuel economy (now 13 city/18 highway/15 combined) and shaves .2 seconds off the vehicle’s 0-60 time (now 7.3 sec). Lastly, driver’s now have the option to choose either Eco, Normal, or Sport driving modes with the addition of the Drive Mode Select feature.
